First of all, I like to say thanks for the support you guys showed for upgrade suggestions.
I have been told that the loan I applied for (NZ$850) was approved. However, due to rent (1 week overdue) and book purchase, I will have roughly NZ$600 to spend. I have decided to use the money to get a new OS FIRST, (I currently have ME but decided to change it, too unstable) XP home or 2000 Pro (Is Windows 2003 a good idea for a PC?)
then save up (from the leftovers) then get new computer parts. As for Anti-Virus, I will download AVG 7.0.
P.S. Does anyone know anything about AVG Anti-Virus? If yes, how long dows the free version "last" before u need to have it registered?

As far as I'm aware, the free version of AVG is not time-limited.

Win 2003 is the next version of the NT Core based OS for servers... you had NT, then 2000, then XP, then 2003. I've been running Win 2003 Advanced Server on my server boxes at home for quite a while now (since it was in Beta)... but I've yet to see even a Beta version of Windows 2003 Workstation from M$. I'm thinking that maybe Microsoft is going to stick with XP for workstations (their new 64 bit workstation os is being called "Windows XP 64 bit edition" and use "2003" for servers.

Just ONE more Q...can the free version repair/delete/transfer infected files? My computer showed up with no virus (lucky for a guy who never had an anti-virus in my comp for 3 years)but just in case...

Good news, guys.

I just saw a computer system a guy was selling for NZ$500.
It's an auction, but since tomorrow/the day after, I will have received my loan, pay off one week worth of rent (that I'm behind), buy my textbook, and be able to get a new powerhouse computer for $500 ONLY.
Don't congratulate me just yet, I don't know if I trust this deal yet and I don't know if this guy sold this to another man.

As for the computer:
AMD Athlon 2600XP 333FSB,
512MB DDR 333 RAM,
80GB Seagate 7200rpm 8.5ms HardDrive with 3 yr warr,
17" Flat Dig monitor with 3 yr warr,
Elite KT400 DDR400 8xAGP USB2 LAN Dolby Sound Motherboard,
GeForce FX 5200 128MB 8xAGP Video Card,
52x24x52 Speed CD Rewriter,
56k Fax/Modem,
380W Yamada Magnetically Shielded Spkrs,
Black Midi Tower 400W ATX Front USB Case,
Softtouch Keyboard & 800 dpi Mouse, Windows XP, MS Office,
Boxed with full warr

what is the NZ to US? because that sounds too good to be true... if you ask me... you better check it personally if you can first.

Oh, and it's an online auction, and I can't somehow find his e-mail. Perhaps it's just better to give up and actually find something reliable...
