Not in the US. Basicly the United States learned decades ago, you get better quality soldiers by letting them volunteer. You have to pay them more and you have to pay more to train them, but you get the best of the best that way, which is why in our last two conflict we won in days not months or years.

(Im talking the main war not this mop up shit that is going on now)

Our force Structure really isn't made to allow for the kind of idiots you end up sucking in via a draft....believe it or not, the average person doesn't make a good soldier or sailor when you depend on high tech weapons and communications systems....and we do not believe in cannon fodder at this point

There are bills that are currently in committee that would reinstate the draft, however it's generally accepted that these don't stand much of a chance of getting out of committee let alone actually be passed by the house and senate. So I wouldn't worry about the possibility of the draft if I were you.

The draft isn't going to be used for this war, Bush presented the idea to Congress but they shot it down.

Bush presented the idea to Congress but they shot it down.

evidence, or im just going to chalk this one up to so much more uneducated bush bashing.

it should be noted that there are always bills to reenstate the draft, and it ain't gonna happen unless we go to war with china.

You can chalk it whatever you want it to be, but don't call it a 'bashing' when there is no insult in it to begin with.

Around the first week I heard the draft was going to be reinstated, there was a lot of controversy surrounding it, then about two weeks later tensions died down when it was reported on CNN or MSNBC that Congress rejected the idea.

Well, how exactly do you take bills that were proposed and supported by democratic senators and congressmen and then propose that it was the (republican) presidents idea?

The number of proposed bills in congress are like the stars inthe heavens, most never see the light of day, you can find bills on everything from Mandated Abbacus Education to Striped Pants for Zebra's. You don't have to worry about proposed bills untill they actually get drafted and brought up for a vote. Even then, most of them are shot down.

After reading the fact check...how could you even wonder about a draft? they debunk the claim right on that page.

Here are a couple of articles I came accross. Both articles are rather long so I only posted the first paragraph.

Army to Call Up Retired, Discharged Troops

The Associated Press

Excerpt:

WASHINGTON June 29, 2004 — Digging deeper for help in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army is preparing for an involuntary recall to active duty of about 5,600 civilians who have either retired or were discharged after previous service.

U.S. Readies for Draft

Dave Eberhart, NewsMax.com
Friday, June 25, 2004

Excerpt:
Despite denials that the U.S. plans to re-institute the draft, the Pentagon has stepped up preparations for a new Selective Service System that could allow for a full-blown draft by next year.
