Excuse me if this is an all-too common question (I couldn't find it in past posts): does nayone know if there is a plan for an expansion pack or is Black ISle just going to let people write mods for IWD2?

I don't think there any plans for an expansion pack, sadly enough. Black Isle have killed the infinity engine stone dead with fell magic, and corporate blandishments.

That is sad. I'm hoping there will be some conversions/mods. Should give me enough time to finish BG2 while I wait!

Teambg will probably look at doing some mods, but don't hold your breath on an expansion. I haven't been able to find any sales figures for IWD2, but apparently it is NOT doing all that well. If that is true, it's highly unlikely that an expansion would be made. planescape:Torment had the same thing happen to it - although critically acclaimed by reviewers and gamers alike, its sales were "disappointing" and no sequel has been made.

A lot of Great Original Games get sold really bad dispite good reports from critics.
Just look at Shiney, they made 3 great original games with Messias, Sacrifice and MDK all 3 of which were praised by critics, but not bought by gamers. Most Ironic part is that when they made a rather lousy game with a movie-licence, they did sell :/ (matrix)

Thanks for adding your thoughts! In general, I have noticed that people do not care for IWD2 as much as other Infinity engine games (notably BG2). I don't know yet because I have not started it, I'm still playing BG2 (and playing-time is at a premium for me.) Personally, I liked IWD better than BG1 and I certainly will play IWD2, even if it is not as good as BG2 as popular opinion seems to hold. Since I have never been swayed much by critiques, I am sure that I will give it a try.

I am sad to hear about the demise of the Infinity engine. Does anyone know if they are planning to stick with only the new Aurora engine, or are they planning on developing a new system to replace IE for another BG/IWD/PS type game? I can't believe they would think that all of their BG players would move to NWN, especially with how well BG seems to have sold.

There was a Baldur's Gate game that came out for the consoles (PS2, GCN, Xbox), and I bought and beat it in a day...It sucks...really it did. The only nice surprise is that Drizzt is an unlockable character. Now there are "rumors" that the same company is going to make a BG3 but...it (hopefully) might not happen.

Well, what i can make of all of the banter from the dev. over at the Black isle studio is that they are going to concentrate on the SPECIAL system for a while now. They are working on Lionheart and rumor has it that Van Buren will be Fallout 3 (you can find a post about that by me in the misc. games forum). The reason they dumped the IE engine is twofold. One, because they found that it became to limiting and two, because they didn't want to saturate the market. Wich, if you can take IWD2's sales figures into acount, may have already happened.

Thanks for the info JR! Although, I would have to say that Lionheart looks to me like a Diablo rip-off. Isn't that market saturated already? I mean, IE is one of the few of the top RPGs which allow a party in single player mode and is based on AD&D ruleset.

Maybe I'm just not seeing what they are.

The Aurora Engine is owned by Bioware and given their recent split with Interplay it is HIGHLY doubtful that Interplay / Black Isle will have access to it.

Sorry, but I don't think Lionheart looks the LEAST bit like Diablo. It uses the SPECIAL system that orignated in the Fallout series I believe and the setting isn't your classic D&D type setting.

Given that HotU (the second expansion pack for NWN) is a definite buy for me, I debating whether to buy Lionheart or Temple of Elemental Evil by Troika.
