Mumblegrumble.

This is a country that refuses to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty yet somehow warrants comments like these:

Quote:
The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog has welcomed a nuclear agreement between the US and India.

International Atomic Energy Agency chief (IAEA) Mohammed ElBaradei said it would boost non-proliferation efforts.
Quote:
British Prime Minister Tony Blair said the accord could "make a significant contribution to energy security... as well as representing a net gain for the non-proliferation regime".
Quote:
French President Jacques Chirac, who signed a similar deal with India last month, said the agreement would help fight climate change and non-proliferation efforts.
Grrr...are they all retarded?

Note this too:

Quote:
Under the agreement, India will classify 14 of its 22 nuclear facilities as being for civilian use, and thus open to inspection
So what happens to the remaining eight nuclear weapons sites? We're just supposed to ignore them?

And all this at a time when we are trying to block Iran, a subscriber to the NPT, from acquiring nuclear technology of any sort.

That's really going to help fight against Ahmadinejad's propoganda - can anyone else see why the average Iranian Joe might start to agree with their Pres that they're being persecuted over the nuclear issue?

Question Mark

India is our friend. Economically, we cannot afford to distance ourselves from India.

Iran is not our friend. Economically, we can afford to distance ourselves from Iran.

Does it all make sense now?

The fact that one our diplomats was killed in Pakistan (India's sworn enemy) probably also factored into the final decision, too.

Ah, I never said I didn't understand - just that I disapprove

Besides, not giving nuclear tech to India isn't distancing yourself, it's maintaining the status quo.

India is only a friend because it fits the current situation. Iran was once a very good friend of the US, back in the days of the Sjah, remember ? Same goes for Iraq, remember that as well ?

All in all this doesn't make any sense at all.

It's politics. It doesn't have to make sense. Personally I think that many nations having nuclear weapons is better than one nation having nuclear weapons.

Exactly. In addition, India is the world's largest DEMOCRACY, and a rival to China, who the US seems to be not having fun with ATM.
