Your forgetting the treaty signed in 1906 that made tibet free and self governed.

I'm not saying What is going on in Iraq is O.K. What I am saying is Tibet is a free country and should be left alone. Why do you think before China took over in the 50s Tibet had 6000 monistaries and now they only have 6. That seems to me to be repression of the Tibetan people.

It's important for human rights groups to stay neutral on whatever they're examining, because they appear that way. So that issue aside, the possibility of the government-sponsored targetting of the pro-democracy voters with threatening phone calls etc is much worse than the parade. If the allegations are true, it paints the situation in a different light than we might see coming from a national source. However, they're just allegations at this point, not condemnations.

Whether or not HRW is worthy of your ire I think depends on whether or not they're being neutral and honest. If they're not then their role in "all those important issues" comes into question, but if they are we shouldn't dismiss them outright.

Besides the question of independance, there is also the human rights situation in Tibet.
This is from the much hated ( )Human Rights Watch, and this is a copy of a UN rapport on torture in Tibet.

I can't see that happening in the future. Perhaps in a very distant future it might. The CCP is too drunk with the absolute powers it have. I see that it won't give up it's power too easiy. China need another Sun Yat Sen.
