This article actually makes me want one now! A bed that costs more than most average cars...and actually more than half of my mortgage!!

Quoted from article:

* Growing market for high-end beds made from latex, silk, cashmere, lambswool
• Vividus bed, priced at $49,500, is one the most expensive sold in the U.S.
• Less than a dozen handmade Vividus mattresses sold worldwide since July

Well. No, I'm gonna say "No."

Although, I can really understand people paying up to two thousand for one...it makes the day less stressful, and can increase your alertness, both at you job, and while driving.

Couple grand I can also see. We bought a new king size bed last year. Best money I ever spent. The wife is like a furnace. So now there is a great buffer between us.

But like all things if you are a millionare. I could see someone buying those beds.

$50k is a bargain for a good bed, if you want something a little fancier, try this one for just 1.2 million euros. Cheap at the price!

If I was insultingly rich, sure, I'd get one. Floating things are cool

Good beds are worth the price. Unless you mistreat them or your house burns down, they can last for years, often longer than your fancy new sports car, so it's really worth paying more for them than a car.

On average, you spend 8 hours a day in them, maybe more if you use them to relax on while reading or watching TV, so that's probably more than the amount of time you drive every day unless you have a truly hellish commute or driving is part of your job.

I'd say that, if I really had the money, and the bed was really THAT good? I'd go for it, in the blink of an eye.

If I have a stressful and problematic life to begin with, would a $50k bed gives me a good night's sleep?

I believe that a good night's sleep is priceless. That is to say, some of the best sleep I've ever gotten has been on the ground, sans mattress or sleeping bag.

We were crazy kids alright. But I've also managed to get very refreshing sleep on the deck of a commercial fishing boat, so I can't really imagine anyone who is even remotely healthy needing to fork over $50,000 for a good rest. I'd say there's a much more serious problem than the bed, and the money should go into taking care of that first.

What's the difference, though, between a $50,000 bed and a $2,000 bed? And a $500 bed?

The real question to me is if the $50k bed is $48k better than the $2k. And I'm not quite sure how you'd classify that...
