Happy V-Day, everyone.
Not Valentine's Day, or Singles Awareness Day, or Heterosexuality Appreciation Day. No, I'm talking about the global movement started by Eve Ensler to raise money for battered women's shelters, rape crisis centers, and the like. Who's seen The Vagina Monologues? I directed a production of TVM at my school... we opened tonight. Anyone else involved in V-Day or see a production recently?

Feminism is an excuse for women to feel good about themselves. I think that's a pretty good debate.

Vagina Monologues?!
I've never heard of V-day, i'm afraid. If it replaces Valentine's day, that's alright with me. |

I've seen pieces of TVM...alternately amusing, interesting, startling, and occaisionally vulgar.
I think pretty much everyone who's familiar with TVM knows the vulgar part, that basically involves the repetition of one word, repeatedly. Besides that, well, horray for women...though, with changing gender roles in modern society, the feminism movement is really beginning to have to assert more and more pressure to make any sort of change, and promoting (through that pressure) resistance even amongst many women. Last time I saw TVM was last V-Day. Which sounds entirely too much like "VD."

Well, the V stands for Vagina and Victory over violence. It's a relatively recent thing. For more info, you can visit www.vday.org.

Yes I saw the Vagina Monologues... including 'The little coochie snorcher' segment that glorifies pedephilia and rape (as long as the rapist is female).
It was... enlightening. [ 02-16-2006, 05:57 PM: Message edited by: Thoran ] |

I'm gonna have to agree with Illumina on this one...there was a little bit of a bad parenting aspect, but that was about all that was implied to be bad in that sketch...the rest was the speaker's choice, if not an incredibly responsible choice....

TVM is a bunch of nonsensical dribble for anyone without a monthly flow. and anyone with one who is into the inane abbble needs to find something better to do IMHO, cheers.
