Well, I live in Québec, a french and english province of canada, so I have to know the basic of english if i want to travel around the country. Like Tara Song, we have english classes since 10 years old. I think that the country with the most people who only speak one language is USA. They could try. I did it.

I'm american. I know that the word "mate" is also used in England and other Europian countries. Actually, the Australians, I believe, are decendants of the English. This explains the use of slang terms common to both langauges.

I'm English but can also read some Swedish, French and German (not particularly fluent though). My girlfriend's first language is African and she is fluent in German, English and Swedish

Well im Scottish born and bred and PROUD of it, unfortunatley im on a working holiday in Australia right now ( I say unfortunatley because I love Scotland so much, not as an offence to the beautiful land down under).

My history's kinda complicated. I'm part Spanish, part Filipino, part Chinese, I grew up in LA, moved to Sydney about 12 years ago when I was 15 and never left. There's a few Aussies on this board.

well im a new zealander myself so I undersatnd about the mate stuff and I have lived in aussie about half my life and I almost never said mate. Id hope thats a good thing
