I have a party, consisting of
Me (avenger druid) Edwin Viconia Now, I've noticed that every time we piss off teh cowles ... all i have to do is make edwin cast Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting ( takes care of all, but the most powerfull mages) And then cast Insect Plague. But no cowl has ever been able to resist my insect plague. As long as you dont cast it directly at him, spell turning and such wont work, beter yet, i believe it doesnt even have effect if you do cast it directly. Mirror image and stoneskin are gone in seconds, so .. .how does a mage resist Insect plague ?? Invisibility wont work ... just summon a pet.. make it hostile and cast Insect plague at that.. invisiblem, protected by any spell, even spell trap, or not .... those insect will jump to that mage. Is there any way to dodge it ? Thx for any replies

That's an excellent question. Fortunately I've never had it cast on me. The best defense I can think of is to disrupt the caster since the spell isn't exactly a quick one to cast. The manual doesn't say anything about dispel magic....perhaps that would work....you just need to make sure you have someone around not infected by the insects to cast it. Or perhaps you could cast a spell immunity b4hand if you suspect a confrontation with a druid. Why am I responding? I obviously have no clue.

"Don't let them cast it at all" is the best approach Fire Tooth +3 is a WONDERFUL mage disruption tool. Spell Immunity VS. [whatever type spell Insects are, abjuration?], and I think all 9th level spells can't be disrupted oven if you take damage. I think magic resistance also affects this because no dragons I fought ever suffered this. Luckily, you only have to go head to head with this spell a couple of times in the Druid Grove. Try Spell Shield as well, though I havn't tried this.

I'd swear that some of the enemy mages you encounter actually have Insect Plague on a spell trigger. More likely, it's simply in the pre-programmed script for that area: they immediately get off the spell before anything else happens. In that case, I suggest ranged weapons. If there are several enemy mages, don't bother focusing on just one: keep 'em all from getting off any spells. Or go back to your last save, and do a group invisibility spell. What isn't visible can't be attacked, and if you can't get to the enemy mages before they dispel your invisiblity, at least you'll have wasted one of their spells in the meantime.

Thankfully, I find that enemy spellcasters tend to aim at whoever's closest to them, meaning your Tank(s). So just pull your back rank away from the fight and away from your Tank, and have your Tank go running off into the distance ("Yow! Ooo! Ouch man, this hurts!") and take the damage like a man (or woman), while the Ring of Gaxx eases the pain. When it's over, come back pissed.
I, too, love the strategy of giving immune targets a non-immune ally. Summon a creature with a decent amount of HP, then cast Cloudkill or something. Your Tank won't mind the damage from the Cloudkill, but the beastie goes hostile, and is vulnerable to Insect Plague. Ah, thinking ahead.....
