ok, i must say that monks are the most kick ass fighters. special bonuses like whirlwind, power strike etc aside, lets compare my monk to one of your fighters.
my monk is level 28 i believe and he has -10 armor, 140+ hit points, 93% magic resistance (83% max plus an amulet), he's practically immune to any missle (with the monks dodge) has like 4 attacks per round and deals rediculous damage. he's equiped with those fancy gloves that give +4 to thaco and +4 to damage with bare hands and his hands are considered +4 already, that gives him a THACO of -13. throw in the fighters special abilities like whirlwind and smite and oh man, you have a powerhouse

After playing through the start of ToB with a Kensai/Mage, and having serious problems with the boss of Watcher's Keep (with the baldurdash patch installed), I've decided to try BG2 with a monk, in the hopes that this guy will be able to splat Demagorgon once I reach ToB. I also created a pure kensai in multiplayer to go along with him. I figure that between the two of them, they should be able to reduce that damn boss to a quivering pile of flesh pretty quick. Yes, I what you'd call a powergamer

have you seen "gone in 60 seconds" ?
well, that is what happens when you go up against a good dueler who knows what he is doing.

a lvl 19 barb can have better stats than that

I like the monk myself as an interesting alternative to a straightforward hack and slash character.

This "too powerful" arguement is bs because with pretty much any class at a high enough level you can become ridiculously powerful...

Honestly I don't understand how people's monks die? I don't think my monk has died even once and I hardly consider myself the most careful player. Do you just send your naked monk in leading the charge or what? you can summon fluffy little bunnies and have them walk ahead of your party and that works better than sending your low ac characters in first! Its not like monks get 2 hps per level or something. And he has an insta heal special that should be able to pull him out of most jams!

You just need to be smart until he gets better eq and his ac bonuses really start to kick in.
