@LoA - I'll take the .357, the .44 and if I'm still recognizable splatter me with the .50! Finish it off with a couple of 'nades from an M203 and serve me up for stuffing in the thanksgiving turkey

BTW... Is it a shiny gold medal?
Outstanding! Our first volunteer! Ok people we still need more, step right up dont be afraid! It'll be over, well....somewhat quickly! Plenty of calibers left

I prefer those pre-clinton handguns with the ammo clips that are like 3 times the lenf the handgun itself if it used smaller rounds you could get one of those things to keep on firing for a month

For some reason this isn't usually a main topic of conversation at those glitzy Sydney bars.

Maybe because there's nothing to shoot here...our handgun laws are pretty tight.

The .44 is more sensible and costs less. I know I should go with the .44, but the lure of owning a 315 grain .50 caliber weapon... It's almost more then I can resist.
I'd go with an MP5 or an AK-47 Assault Rifle (Kalashnikov)
Non automatic of course...

GREAT for home defense! Just take a pic of you holding one, and paste it on every window of your home, and NO ONE will dare enter your home!

All kidding aside, I would go with a 9mm. less kickback, which means better aim.
Im with Z on this, the 9mm is way better for home defense. Im a pretty big guy and the .44mag and .454's are too big for me to shoot comfortably! The .50 and the .44 auto's have huge grips to accomodate the large magazines which requires a large hand to hold them.

In addition the .50 will blow a hole through the intruder, the wall behind him and probably penetrate the house next door.

For home defense I use a .357mag loaded with snake shot shells. This WILL stop the intruder and not endanger my neighbors. (atually every other round is a large grain hollow point but the first round is snake shot)

you lose most of the power of a .50 round because
the majority of the powder doesnt even burn till the bullet has already left the barrel. plus you cant comforably carry
a .50 handgun, its just to big to be usefull.
sure it sounds cool, but your never really gonna be able
to use it in any realistic situation.
Plus desert eagle doesnt make that great of a gun,
the action is sloppy, and will really throw your aim off if you try
to fire more than once in succession.
if you like a bigger gun, go with a 45, probably a 1911 style
i personaly prefer the polymer frame weapons, ie. glock or a S&W sigma. Sig makes a nice one too.
if you want to spend the money on a really nice gun get a Kimber or an H&K those are nice guns
but i personaly recomend the 40 calibur. Lots of power, and you can still pack a bunch of them in a clip. And if you get a Glock you can get a good pre-ban hi-cap clip .
happy shooting
I really like the .40 S&W's...of course Im partial to S&W's since I carried my S&W 686 (Stainless .357mag)with me while I was active duty and actually used it for defense. I had a friend with an H&K Assault rifle it was a .308 but I can't remember the model...it felt so different than the AR-15's that we used on Duty.

I'm honestly nowhere near being worried about home defense. I live in a pretty nice area where the need for home defense is pretty low. I love to go shooting though. This is purely for fun.

Everybody who asks why I need a gun: I don't NEED guns, I LIKE guns. It's a blast to go out to the desert and shoot for a weekend. I need more guns for the same reason I need more swords, or bigger speakers, or a huge truck. Same phenomenon.

SB, I know the .50 is a difficult weapon to shoot, and it's not as effeciant as some other calibers. I do already have a Glock 9mm which is much smaller then the Desert Eagle would be. Also, I'm not worried about how difficult the weapon is to carry, because I don't have a concealed weapons permit or anything like that, and I would never need a gun in a day to day situation (strike that, I could use a gun in a day to day situation, but it'd be better for me not to have one ).

Hehehe Its basicly the "Tim the tool man Taylor" syndorme Basicly (but not exclusively) a guy thing. We like tools, we like using our tools, if it isn't guns, its cars, if it isn't cars, its sound systems, if it isn't sound systems it's computers...men and boys and toys.

MOST gun owners don't want them for causing wanton destruction...its a skill an art that we like to excell at (shooting that is) out of the estimated 400 million firearms in this country only a few tens of thousands a year are used in crimes. (in a country of roughly (300 Million with an area larger than all of europe) The percentage that are misused is very low, and not even on the same level as the percentages of deaths caused due to cars.

Are you sure that a gaming forum is the right place for such a conversation? There are alot of underage members here and you might convince some of the kids that owning a gun is 'cool'.
