I am not saying that they are bad, I just want to know why many think they are so great. They would get more strength and hp, but what else do they get? I am sure there is something I am missing. Do they get to dual wield?
I am thinking about making a Pure cleric (with the extra few abilites), but would it be better to make a dual Ranger/Cleric?

Never done it, but I would guess that:
1. Ranger gets weapons specialisation
2. Ranger starts with 2 bonus points in dual wield
3. Ranger gets more HP
4. Ranger gets lower THAC0
5. Ranger gets stealth ability

Therefore a ranger dualled to cleric gets these bonuses of rangers as a starter. I would dual either straight at the beginning of the game (having put weapons points into mace, warhammer, sling etc.) or at level 9.
Then you have yourself a weapons specialised dual wielding cleric with stealth.
Cool.

Epona got all the reasons but one. The other reason is that the way th game works, the ranger cast from druid spells. Dualing a ranger to a cleric will give you all druid AND cleric spells (for all levels, not just the ones your ranger would know)

Ah, I didn't include that because I wasn't sure if it applied for all levels, especially as you may well dual before getting any spells as a Ranger. If it does, that makes the Ranger/Cleric very powerful, in addition to all the points I mentioned above.

Hey ranger clerics aren't too bad, pick your monster enemy something strong and your cleric will hurt it harder in combat

I myself went with the beserker/cleric dual class human combo myself. Start your beserker, get up to level 9, switch to cleric, and your a terror in melee combat if you specialize your weapons right.
I made up a beserker cleric specialized in war hammer (so i can use the supremely strong war hammers in the game), gave him sword and shield style, and my left over proficiencies went into mace.
SO my beserking cleric with his Grandmaster skill with his monsterous warhammer runs into combat with full armor and shield, full clerical spells, and alot of "holy might" boosting spells up..He virtually mows down golems, and with the amulet that keeps him from being drained by vampires, he mows down undead also, often faster than my Undead hunter paladin with his 2 handed Avenger.

Besides that: ranger gets a racial enemy! Not that that's extremely good, but...

In the foul darkness one figure will emerge to save the world from evil and despair.... Light flashes as his sword comes down, and thunder rolls through the sky when he points his sword up to heaven to signal his victory....People whisper his name as he walks by, evil tries to hide as they sense his presence nearby.... His name? Link......
