Yes, it certainly is. Consider: you're running an evil/neutral party, and your reputation is high. Viconia, Korgan, and Edwin are all grousing. You fire up the Slayer, and poof! lose two reputation points right away. The others grunt their approval. Who knows, maybe Viconia even winks at you.

If you have a good party, you have to be more chary of using the Slayer. Avoid it with Keldorn; otherwise, I'd consider assuming it if Irenicus gives you a hassle in the final battle. The Slayer isn't so much a power to access constantly (which it's clear the developers didn't want) as a trump card to pull out only when everything is against you.

The final battle. You're running an all good party. Your rep is like 19 or 20 , and it's going to get dumped back down to 11 when you start ToB. Use it or lose it...my opinion...

I would avoid it if you're a good or neutral character. Cause your rep drops with two points every time you turn into it. But if you're in desperatly in need of it, then you should just do it, cause you can win the rep back by giving money to the Temples.
But only if there is no other way.

But if you're evil, my tip is: use it all the time! It's just good for you that your rep drops, plus that you get such a powerful creature so you can just kill everyone you see! Muahahahaha!
But remember, if you are the Slayer for too long, you will die...

see ya!

You won't lose your reputation if you Finish the Last battle in SOA and make the transition to TOB. Only if you import your character.

I don't like the slayer. I found him to be weaker than my Kensei and a LOT weaker than my Sorcerer.

Well, actually the Slayer is not that bad, but really, there are better ways to do combat than to use the Slayer form.

My Kensai has a two +2 scimitars. Thac0 is in the main hand -7 and in the secondary hand -5. Strenght is 21(girdle of frost giant strenght). and number of attacks 9/2. And he has 140 hp and 4 kais. It´s better than some lousy Slayer.
BTW, the other scimitar raises my attacks by one.
