I kind of see Iron Ranger's point, it doesn't really prove anything. Besides, you just try and keep me away from the stores for a single day. I think I'm in love. With Wal-Mart

You seem to miss the point. Pick another day. If people do not shop and buy on that day then I will immediately lay off 14 people because I will not be able to afford to pay them for the rest of the Christmas season. From my view your desire is to put people out of work. What is this grand ideal you are working towards? It just seems to be a vague "I don't like corporations" exercise.
I've payed my dues in working for a goal. I've participated in local Civil Rights marches and boycots for over 30 years. I actively protested against the Vietnam War at my school and in public marches. I was a participant in the first AIDS symposium in the world. I have gone to the main headquarters of Budweiser in St. Louis to protest their commercials which were aimed at children. I have led voter registration drives and gotten 2 projects of the Texas Dept. of Highways stopped. (Are you getting the idea.)
I apologize if I am being angry and rude. I am geting tired though of people who "protest" (I wasn't going to shop on that day anyway.) for ill-defined reasons solely to feel good about themselves. I promise that this will be the last I post on this topic.

And as for 'proving' anything, I didn't say anything about 'proving' we're unmaterialistic. I said that it was, in case you weren't paying attention, to protest being taken advantage of. And saying it won't do anything is why nothing ever gets done in this country; they don't think they can make a difference. Well I know it won't exactly make a colossal dent in their quarterly profits, but it would sting them a small bit if enough people participate.
Your way off course here buddy. IMO, my first few posts wear perfectly in line with the orginal topic. It was your 4th post of the thread that I said didnt have anything to do with the post you quoted me from. Ok, say this crazy idea does work, and no one buys anything the day after thanksgiving. So what? The 2nd day after thanksgiving will just take its spot. Again, pointless.

Granted, you wearnt the one that said anything regarding materialistic things, that was Chewbaca. As for being taken advantage of? Ha, that kind of funny actually. If you want to give that much power to big corperations, be my guest. Your spinning your self in circuls with that one. And as for not getting anything done in the country is a debate all to its self.

The merchants may have commercialized the season, that doesnt mean you cannot take advantage of decent deals to get things for the people you love.

By protesting it and making a big fuss about it, you admit that the merchants won. The season is not about letting them tell you what to do or not to do, ignore the hype and get things you think the people you love might want. Sure you can hand make items, or you can give them nothing, but I earn the money I spend on them with my hands and my mind, so the store bought gifts I buy for them are every bit as much a product of my love as something I created myself if I had such a skill.
I'd just like to take this opportunity to say 'damn straight!'
