Could somebody tell me what the relation between druids and scimitars are? I know they are swords too and druids shouldn't be able to use swords, so what makes the scimitar so special?

I agree, the fact that druids can use scimitars but no other sword annoys me, I mean if they can use one type of sword why not another???
I undrstand they could've done it to keeop the realism that they hate metal, but didn't want them to only use really poor weapons, but why not long swords as well????

Comes with the ethos
It's not that they cannot use other weapons They just aren't allowed to

quote: Yeah, but is there any resource that explains why they use what they use. What determined that the scimitar was the only sword that a druid can use? |

According to mythical knowledge, it is rumoured that a druid needs to cut down bough from a tree using a "golden sickle".
The curved blade of the scimitar probably is the closest (and comfortablest) thing to it - so they grabbed that and made it druids-available. Still........why daggers and not swords then? There's nothing curved about a dagger? (Sacrifice related maybe? - dunno)

Don't really know, but it definitely makes druids more useful. Remember in BG before TOTSC when scimitars weren't around? Clubs were the best weapon! Grrr....

quote: Speaking of clubs, I never found that "tree" club that was meant to be in BG1. Easily found in BG2 - but it's the same icon, but different club function.

I have the answer!
The scimitar is the horn of the unicorn! In legends the Unicorn is the symbol of nature and in the first apperances of unicorns its horn is curved! The unicorn is also the defender of woods and woodlands! Hence the proficency! Mielekki has it as his favoured weapon for followers too! The trye scimitar is hence made from bone material, and there is a referens to a certain type of scimitars dealing a D8 instead of D6 in one of the D20 books out there--- Well thats the answer I have found!
