I recently bought Age of Mythology for my birthday (this past Saturday... happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me... Icewind Dale II is currently shipping to me), and it KICKS!!! I HIGHLY recommend it!!! I'm normally not a big strategy type gamer, but whoa, this one is incredible. The campaign story is great, the effects are great, the graphics are amazing... you name it, I love it. Wow, wow, wow... Ok, I'll calm down now.

I like strategy games in general: Kohan, Battlerealms, Warlords Battlecry 2, civ 3... But I really hate Age Of Empires and its spinoffs.

So will I like Age of Mythology ?

Strangely, AOE is the one RTS series I cant abide. That and the Star Wars version which is the same game. Dont know why, its well made and the design is competent if not exactly incredible. Guess I just like my Zergling rushed too much for AOEs detailed economics and slow pacing.

Thanks, 9-1-6. Just give me ample warning so I can start my getaway run. I have never played Age of Empires, but I have been told by fans that Age of Mythology is a HUGE improvement over the predecessors. Can't wait to get home an play it today!

The game is based on Age of Empires, so my feeling is, if you don't like AoE, don't bother. Age of Mythology is fun to play and has a lot of features that are improved (although it has one or two things which are worse) since the AoE series, but it is essentially Age of Empires using mythology.

Yes, the Zerg are Starcraft. I like Protoss best though. There is something about seeing your swarm of Carriers destroying everything in sight that appeals to me. And the AI for surface to air guns is really stupid... It targets the fighters not the carriers, so they remain more intact.

I haven't played AoE much, but AoE 2 kept me amused for over a year. That's second place only to BG2, which I played for two years or so.
