Got an adware/worm I can't get rid of. My computer keeps looking to open IE and go to "coolsearch" and other websites. The home page resets to their site, too. I ran Spybot and Adaware 6, but it didn't kick it. Any other FREE adware killers?

Also, either Spybot or Adaware deleted a .dll file that is hooked to my Nvidia card -- now I get a prompt everytime of boot up. How can I get this file back and fix this problem? I don't even know how to search the Adaware and Spybot histories to see what exactly was done. HELP!!!

Forget Spybot and Adaware. Download Spy Sweeper (www.spysweeper.com). It will shift any crap that's on your PC. It runs for about an hour while Spybot and Adaware are done in five minutes. It's free but it does have a subscription service if you want the latest updates and all the other bells and whistles. I was so impressed with it that I went ahead and subscribed; having a crap-free PC is worth it.

As for your video card problem, I'm sure your laptop came with some system-restore CDs when you bought it, so I'd have a look through there and re-install your video drivers. All the important system stuff is backed-up on those CDs so you should be all set.

There is a hard to find program called CWS Shredder that can solve that homepage problem as well.

Thanks for the link (teehee) Arledrian. I think SpySweeper will do a decent job on my infested computer. At least I hope so

Well, SpySweeper has not fixed the problem. The programs are catching a file (c:\windows\nem.dll -- or maybe c:\windows\214nem.dll, I forget) that cannot be deleted. WTF?

If you want to delete it, do it in DOS. Though it sometimes isn't the best idea to go deleting stuff in the windows folder (thanks m$ for not putting 'made by m$ on that file, would have saved me a couple of hours reinstalling).

Okay, I can try that tonight when I get home. I forget how to get a DOS prompt in XP, though.

I think you need to do it with a boot disk. In my experience using dos via windows doesn't work, it still prevents deleting stuff.
