I once posted a question about making melee fighter automatically run in and start kicking butt. Thank you for the responses. Here is the reason behind my question and a few more questions:

I first heard about the release of this game when talking with one of my friends. During our discussion he mentioned he went running with his brother and came back to find his party had gained a level. I bought the game but have two problems. 1) I work 8-5 with 30 min travel time on either end. 2) I am addicted! A couple hours of playing at night is fun but I would like to gain something during the time I am stuck in drudgery . I decided to try a Lord (for the health regeneration) based party after my first one got trashed during work yesterday. I found that my 5th level 4*Lord, rogue, and ranger made it through the night last night in the monestary with two problems. 1) Ranger died sometime while I slept. 2) I ran out of arrows during the combat and with the monsters using ranged attacks it went on for 1,689 rounds of my characters standing there guarding before I checked on it in the morning. I guess if I had somehow limitless ranged ammo this group would be good to go.

Here comes the questions:
1) Is there anything with endless ammo?
2) Is there a better combo for this style of play?
3) Will my group end up advancing beyond their equipment?
4) If you level and keep going can you double level?
5) How to resurrect (Will lords get this ability?) the ranger?

Thank you for your feedback on this.

1) No, there are no weapons with endless ammo.
2) You didn't tell your party composition. If you want strong ranged combat, include a ranger and a gadgeteer in your party. In my opinion, every party needs a fighter (but just one), since they are the best melee guys in the game.
3) This isn't a major issue. If your skills get really good, you'll do more damage with the same equipment. You can upgrade your equipment once you get to Arnika.
4) I've never tried playing this way, but I assume you can level twice without loss.
5) There is a safe in the monastery that contains several doses of resurrection powder. The ressurect spell is a fifth (sixth?) level divine school spell, so you won't get that until level 12 or so. You may find resurrection powder, scrolls or stones as random treasure at other places in the game.

I can't imagine trying to play this way. I enjoy the game too much to spend any of it on autopilot. I, like you, work eight hours a day, do other things most evenings, so I'm lucky to get two hours a night in. I make up for it on weekends.

One thing that might help is to get yourself into an area where ranged attacks would be limited by cover, making it necessary for most monsters to move into melee range. This would also have the benefit of not having your party waste most of their ammo when the enemy was too far away to hit them effectively.

I dont think that due to the way level up- works you could gain enough exp's to take you up more than one level...you are promoted on the spot..I think it would be silly not to allocate the points given at the time you get them....can't think of a single reason not to.

Actually, the Mystery Ray has unlimited ammo as far as I can tell. However, you won't get that thing unless you a) Import a party from Wiz 7 that had it, or b) Cheat.

As it says in the manual, you can level more than once. You lose nothing. For those who want to test it and are high level, save your game, drop a character, add a first-level character and get in a big fight. Resurrect the newbie character before the battle is over, and watch him gain five levels.

The mystery ray can be obtained in Bayjin in a random super treasure box. I load a few times to get the Light Sword. Got the frontier phaser in another of my tries also, but of course I preferred the "Light". Btw, there is also another ranged weapon with no ammo limitation usable only by ninjas (found in a particular temple).

If you all could only hear the cackling I made this morning when I discovered my all lord (3 male and 3 female human lord) survived the whole night unaided! I found that they had enough experience to jump from 2nd level up to 5th. A couple interesting things of note... The range of the experience they were getting per battle did not change as long as they didn't level up. I mean they had the experience needed to go to level 5 but the combats were only giving around 90-350 xp per battle. What I conclude from this is if I had left them there without leveling up they probably would have gained maybe one more level after fighting all day today.

I noticed as I was going out the door they were up to their necks in some kind of slime I had never seen before that had all of them poisoned. They were beating helplessly (missing a whole lot). It just didn't look good. So I expect to come home to that "your party has died" screen. Probably I should have left them at level 2 where the mobs were easier

I went all human because as a party of only lords I knew they would have to do their scouting and I would probably need to specialize some of them to be as best at casting as possible. Humans looked to be a pretty good start since their stats were pretty well rounded.

Interestingly... my slinging Lady had somewhere around 42 bullets when I went to bed... this morning there was 140+ bullets lying around on the ground in piles! Looks like ammo wont be a problem if that keeps up. Problem is I don't know if the rocks were found or dropped by the roaches and slimes I was fighting all night. Now that I have leveled them up new monsters may come along that don't drop stones. Well we will have to see how it goes... can't wait till

1) one of my lords gets identify.
2) one of my lords gets resurect!

As a side note:
This is turning into more of an experiment, last night I made a nice rounded party and loved it! It consisted of a lizardman fighter, a human monk, a mook ranger, a hobbit thief, a dwarf priest, and a human lord. They beat Gregor pretty easily. I found that the monk is one of the best in my group. I have been focusing my points 1/2 on str, 1/4 to dex, and 1/4 to vit. And he seems to be hitting pretty good. He is tied with my ranger for most kills

This sounds like a very interesting experiment to try. Thank you for the idea.

Oh, and BTW, for ninja's and Monks, there is a ranged weapon called a
boomerang shuriken that always comes back to you. So that's another endless ammo opiton for you. I found mine in the SE wilderness temple that had the Sorceress Queen. Tough battle.
