OK after reading Kinkathra's post I got to thinking. Yes I can hear your thoughts. "Willow? Thinking? ". Anyway here we go. Howabout we ask Ziroc if he has enough space on his server to add the uncompressed files for download here on Ironworks? Let's face it, editing videos is tricky if you have never done it before. Also we get several new members on this board. What do YOU think? A waste of time and resources? Or perhaps something to look into?

That sounds like a good idea. I think it will be very helpful to the users of this forum - both present and future ones. Furthermore it sounds like a project worthy of Ziroc's space.

I think it's worth considering. Perhaps we may need to split them up -- if we could host the files in several places, but link to them from a common spot, we could accomplish the same thing.

'Course, I've never had to use virtualdub meself, Win98 heathen that I am So perhaps a document with pictures and instructions would be just as beneficial.

And me? Make comments about Willow and thinking? Ya know, it's never a good idea to irritate one who may stand over you with a scalpel someday...

Okay, I'm confused -

What town videos are we editing here and why?
And just how big are they??

Doing the virtual dub thing isn't that difficult - are you talking about something else altogether??

Well first do this test.

Virtual dub the videos. time it.

Download the videos. Time it.

Do it with 56k modem. Figure out how much time ur actually saving with this idea.

If you wanted to get really technical, what you should actually do is have a short virtual dub .exe that finds the files and patches them for people. But thats something the developer should have done a long time ago....

No I am talking about the town videos (town*.avi), the ones you need to extract with Virtualdub. And I agree with you that it is not that hard to do IMO. But some have had difficulties with it and it is hard to explain just how to do it. After you have done one you will of course know exactly what we mean in our instructions.

Bungleau, what an excellent idea about a "manual". I'll get right on it and add some images and how to.

Mighty, I'll ask the hubby and see if he can make a "patch" that automagically extracts the town files.

For reference, Wyv, the un-dubbed videos are about 32 MB each. So it's about 200MB of space, I believe (six files? something like that).

And thanks, Willow. Glad to be a source of ideas... or something
