DVD's have AREA codes or some such that they wont play if played on equipment from other geographical areas....

Are your DVD's cleared for the Geo-location of your PS-2???

Yup I think that right. Only DVDs made in a certain area will play on on euqipment from certain areas.

Odd.

You can buy a chip though, for about 150$..
It fixes so you can watch dvd's from any region...
Check it out

Just a warning..the chip fix for the Region coding will void your warrenty on the PS-2 so if something goes wrong...well I hope you can afford a new PS-2

::Ahem:: and I think region hacks for software or movies might be skirting too close to the verboten piracy subject....

If it isn't a 'region' problem, try buying the Remote Control -- it comes with an UPGRADE CD that upgrades your DVD software, but you need like 2.4MB FREE (yeah, BAD), on a mem card. This corrects lots of CD Playing. I've played both AP2 and PH on my PS2.

DVD's play fine on mine....maybe it's that mine just play European DVD's, and that they wouldnt play American DVD's.

Heres what you should do. Find a hammer, if you dont have one you can buy one at a store nearby you. Now take the hammer, aim carefully and smash the damm capslock.

Then you ps2 will work
