Short answer: No, you can't. But you have to fight anyway until a certain event happens in the pool room.

Yeah the end is disappointing. Have we known, we would just have remained in Targos and waited for the *event* to happen,...

But we would have missed all the fun and glory.

Well, staying in Targos wouldn't have been of much help to Kuldahar and some other places

But yeah, it's the sort of cheap ending that the 3rd ed DMG warns you not to do, because the players would feel cheated.

I like to think that Isair and Madae would be too powerful to get sucked into limbo if the heroes didn't taint their pool and whack 'em down to 10 or so hit points.

Ummm...yeah, that's about the size of it. Of course, you do get to waste their little friends, and you do have to beat on either Isair or Madae (your choice), but mainly the job is staying alive.

Sorry about that.

No, when you get them to "near death" an event will activate and something will happen to them, but you will never get to kill them yourself.

You could stand there al day without attacking them and nothing would happen. The only way to activate this event is to get one of them to "near death".
