There arn't enough evil characters in this game. Also how come if you really good at have a max rep Jaherie doesn't leave your group and when your really evil and have a rep of 1 she does leave your group. I woulda thought she would want to balance all the stuff out for both. Not just evil. I know she complains a little but she never leaves a good group. Thats a bit unfair. Also is there an evil path to follow in all the quests?. If not then how can you play as truely evil.

Theres a chart in the manual that shows when characers will "break".
Neutral's are unhappy with a rep of 19 or 20, however, only a really low rep. (1 or 2 I think) will make them leave. |

Edited because I remembered this is the SoA forum.
Some decent evil NPC's: Yoshimo (not evil alignment, but he fits), Edwin, Viconia. |

I've borrowed the game of my cousin and didn't bother getting the manual cause I figured its the same a BG1. Besides BG2 is sooo much easier to get to grips with. I need to get TOB now since I've completed this gamea already. Now I'm just experimenting.

quote: Well the lack of evil characters is kinda balanced by the fact that the ones you have are some of the strongest in the game. Eg, Edwin is by far the best mage - he's the only single classed mage, and he gets 3 extra spells in every level because of his amulet and because he's a specialist mage. And there are good neutral characters to have to fill out the group. And it's not really feasible to have a rep of 1 anyway - you can't buy anything and you're attacked all the time. And it's easy enough to keep your rep low by stealing, turning into the slayer, etc. No, there isn't an evil path for all quests, and in some it's not a good idea to be evil, like the Trademeet druid quest, since if you're evil there you don't get any of the subsequent quests and the merchants don't sell stuff. But you can justify being not so evil roleplaying-wise, by saying you're doing it for money etc.

Just a couple thoughts on "evil" in BG2.
1. If you desperately want more evil characters, then I'd suggest downloading the BG2 Mod, The Darkest Day (often refered to as just TDD). There are 10 additional NPC's (5 evil, 2 neutral, 3 good) in the mod. Most of the TDD NPC's are returning NPC's from BG1. (Of course, it's not ToB compatible yet. But what the heck, it's free.) 2. There are different ways of playing "evil". There's the fairly obvious "mad dog killer" method (this fairly describes Korgan, I'd say). There's also more subtle ways of being evil ... doing anything ...for a price, stealing from merchants, etc. Edwin is an example of more subtle evil. Also, being evil doesn't have to mean that you have a bad reputation. There's no reason that you cannot commit plenty of evils acts out of the overall public eye, but go to the temples and donate tons of gold to crank up your reputation. Y'know, kind of like a beloved gangster. |

i think that the main reason that the game is a lot harder when your evil is because of the story line. in bg1 you were trying to stop sarevok from taking over the world (basicly) and in this one you kill vampires, shadowthiefs, and a really evil wizard that takes your soul.... sounds kinda like a goodie to me but hey.... maybe i just need to lay off the crack

quote: First off, the best characters in the game are evil: Viconia, Korgan, and Edwin, arguably the finest priest, fighter, and mage that depravity can buy. As to an evil path to follow: well, that's not part of the game plan, though if you like that sort of thing, you can find it in Fallout 1&2, and in Arcanum. The best you can hope to achieve in BG2 is to make some evil choices in a few locations which affect your alignment. Why is it "unfair" that Jaheira has a very slight preference for good characters (probably derived from her lover/husband)? Each character is unique in their reactions. Have you checked out the way Jan reacts when you become very evil? |
