When I experienced a problem starting this game I naturally assumed it was my horrible video card (NVidia RIVA TNT) but was surprised to find the video ran fine, all accept a problem with the Prelude Movie Sequence.
However, I have now come to realize it is an audio problem. When the game begins and I can control my character, I make him move anywhere and then I get a system error. The error always appears JUST as my character's foot touches the ground, where the footfall sound should come up but doesn't because of the dreaded blue-screen crash. It is an AU30WAV error--an error concerning my soundcard which is a Dell-made TBS Montego II card. I can't get the new drivers from the TBS website because I don't have a retail version of the Montego II card (I have the Dell version). Dell's website doesn't have a recent driver update either. How do I get around this dreaded problem? After all this time fearing my videocard wouldn't work, it ends up being my damn soundcard! Help me, please!

I would just yank out that sound card and plug in a SB Live! value edition card. They only run between 30-40 bucks and since their the major sound card maker on the market you won't have to worry about having an obscure sound card brand causing problems.

I suggest you make sure that all your setting are on the lowest possible. Then try running it. Also, maybe a reinstall? If neither of those work, a new sound card would help.
