I had to re-install Windows 98 because I had a virus or somthing and I have just succesfully got the internet working. I have several questions concerning drivers, resolution and sound.

1: How do you install drivers? (such as Video, Audio, Sound and Monitor)

2: When I click properties on the desktop and try and increase the resolution it won't let me go past 640x480 with 16 bit colours. So you can imagine how bad everything looks! How do I get it to my orignal 1024 by 769?

3: How do I make the sound work? (I think it involves installing drivers)

4: I think my computer isn't letting me pick up anymore than 640x480 and 16bit because It's not picking up my default intel graphic card. Is this right?

5: If I some how get my orignal graphic card to work how do I make games use my Voodoo 2?

Thanks! This is very important!

I might have to ask more questions later!

Thanks!

I had this first but it was on winme so I'm not sure if it works for you but i guess it does cause it involves the drivers of your motherboard. I installed the audio drivers from my motherboard (they were on the motherboard drivers CD). I think there wasn't a connection between those 2, after that the sound worked.

I really want to help you.

But I need a little bit more info.

What is inside your PC?

Motherboard (chipset is it a VIA or Intel or something else like a SiS? )
Graphic Card
Sound Card

do you have all the CDs that came with your hardware?

can you get on the internet with a fast enough connection to download new drivers if needed?

Yeah I have all the CD's which came with the computer.

I have a 56k connection

When I right click on the desktop, and go to properties it says I have a Plug and Play on Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) Before I re-installed Windows 98 it said I had Intel Graphics controller.

I think I have installed the drivers but I don't know how to make my computer recognise them.

to find out what kind of video card driver you have....

note: you have to look real quick because it disappears right away
everytime you TURN ON your computer.. the first thing that comes out in your monitor is your video card specs. to install it, just try to follow the steps below. dont forget to insert your video card driver cd. sometimes there is an auto load for you to install the drivers. it does that to me in my nvidia drivers.

for the sound (audio: its the same) :
try using the "search" option when installing and try searching the cd (insert of course the driver of the sound card) if not try looking for the specify location and browse your cd. USUALLY it is located in d:\drivers/win98 folder or something.
