Garnet? You have every right to believe what you want bro. I have no problem nor issue with you, though I may not choose to do or believe what you do. Peace bro.

I think it makes sense now that the Heaven/Hell scenario is just a story to convince kids they have to be good else they are doomed for there enternal life in Hell.

It's a nice bed time story

My belief is that in 100years+ or whatever people will look back at us and laugh at how stupid everyone was to believe in a so called God and a Jesus Christ person, much the same as we might at long forgotten religions.
Humans being the shallow mineded things we are though, we'll refuse to believe that we can be wrong and our beliefs can't be truths.

I hope you're not interpreting those of us who are not Christian as *anti*Christian (remember now what you said?) because I for one am not. I am *non*Christian, which is something entirely different. I do believe in most of the basic tenets of the religion (I can hear Yorick winding up to have a go at me already) such as the way to treat others, the 'dos and dont's', excluding what would be the 'biggie' of holding 'God' above all other gods. I don't hold any one over the other as I think Deity in itself (himself/herself)is too vast to quantify...and God himself ackowledged there were other gods and that he was a 'jealous god'. (Warning: I will *not* debate this point.)

Garnet speaks for me on this point, as well. I am definitely *not* anti-Christian or anti-Christianity. My thinking is that it was some rather assertively atheistic posts in that thread which prompted Magik's comments. At least, I hope so. If any post of mine gave that impression, I'd like to know which one, and I will gladly clear matters up.

As for Satan, I think he got a raw deal. He does not exist in my 'pantheon' of deities since I do not adhere to a Judeo-Christian Path, but that doesn't mean I know nothing of the religion and the stories. Actualy I was part of a lively discussion on this same topic on a (mostly) Orthodox Christian list a few months ago. I say mostly since there is a nice Chasidic Jewish man and at least two pagans besides me (the resident token witch) to add flavor to the group.

Hey, I've been a Wiccan for 23 years, and a witch longer than that! So I'm afraid you're just going to have to get used to being one of two tokens, now.

As for this discussion of Satan, I've refrained discussing it except peripherally, as it relates to cultures through their arts. I don't want to antagonize anybody by posting opinions as a religious "outsider," in effect, on something over which people often hold very strong views. But I can gladly add all sorts of material by ancient Church Fathers and from the ancient Philokalia of the Eastern Orthodox Church, if it's desired.

I think I'd probably welcome Garnet as a Wiccan sister into my circle. Let that hint suffice.

Thanks for the respectful post without ridicule Tarox. Good to see you've researched your material. Happy soulsearching.

Garnet, I had no idea! When was the operation?

Fable? What is a Wiccan 'zealot' doing commenting on Christianity? Isn't that akin to a Christian 'zealot' commenting on Buddhism? hmmm?

But isn't that what I already wrote above, Yorick? My offer to add comments of the early Christian Fathers and from the Philokalia is meant to provide a service to everyone, drawing upon the grand mainstream Christian tradition, and without added commentary of my own. If you would prefer to find the comments of Gregory Palamas, Evagrios the Solitary, or Gregory of Nyssa, why, I will agree before the assembled throng not to stand in your way.
