Hey, Manikus (or anybody else that knows)
Do you know if they're going to work on a way of moving items (like in a character's inventory) between designs?

This is not on the list to do before version 1.0 (presuming that you mean transferring between two unlike databases).
However, if both databases are the same in the original design and the new design, the character should retain all of their items. |

Re: Hey, Manikus (or anybody else that knows)
Here's something you might consider. If you have some special items from a game that you just can't do without, you can always add them to the items database in the new design before you start playing it. Then, when you transfer your characters in, they'll have whatever it was that you couldn't do without.
Of course, some designers might not want you bringing in outside stuff as it may break game play so that their design is too easy, or loses it's intended flavor or whatever. In those cases, I guess just don't broadcast to the rest of us what you're doing (if you care how they feel about it, that is). |

Re: Hey, Manikus (or anybody else that knows)
Hopefully designers will include in their readme files whether or not they mind people changing stuff. Still, as a designer I'm aware that people are going to do what they want once they've got my design on their computer. I can only hope that they try it the way I designed first before going their own way. But, really, I'm happy if people play my designs and don't hate them.

Can't we load in the items database from one mod to another? That way we could do carryovers for our own item sets.

I know that the database for my Realms games (Legacy of the Silver Blades and the as-yet-unnamed Old Empires design) will be around 400 to 500 items. Also, if the designer 'hacked' special abilities to do stuff for items, importing a new items database may cause some weird results if you have items that use the same 'hacked' special abilities. (Why is my gorget of sonic blasts causing me to shrink to half my height every time I use it instead of smiting my enemies?) |

Re: Hey, Manikus (or anybody else that knows)
Exactly.
If we just copy over the database, it might erase the existing one. And that will screw up the design. Anyway where is the database info stored in the folder? And yeah, I know people that can do whatever with designs when they get them on their computer, I just want to be respectful. As for Manikus' material, I use a lot of them as bases for editing. Fact, at least one is in my demo. (At least I think it is....) Does this look somewhat familiar?
