Paladin's god is Helm, right? They believe in Helm and fight for the name of Helm.

But as I know The God of Good is lathander
Evil is Talos
and the neutral is Helm?

So if Paladins are LAWFUL GOOD, why they're with HELM? a neutral god?

Err... Paladins can serve various gods. Also, there are a good deal more than Helm, Lathander, and Talos (Tyr, Torm, Cyric, etc). So... shrug. I didn't actually know BG2 Paladins were paladins of Helm, so not sure.

My impression of Helm was that he is the God of Law and Order. So he's more "Lawful" than anything else...letter of the Law and such. Paladins would by nature support Helm because of that.

As far as a warrior's god goes, I prefer Tempos (or Tempus), the one in IWD...but that's another game altogether. Wish they had put him in BG2.

Helm is the God of Guardians. He is Lawful Neutral. He is only one of many, though. He serves Tyr, the God of Justice, who is Lawful Good.

Paladins can serve gods that are up to one alignment step away from lawful good (which they have to be), which means they can serve deities that are either lawful good, neutral good or lawful neutral. The exception to this are Paladins of the Firehair (Sune) who worship a deity that is chaotic good).

Common paladin orders of Faerun include:

Paladins of the High One - Azuth
Paladins of the Grain Goddess - Chauntea
Paladins of the Watcher - Helm
Paladins of the Crying God - Ilmater
Paladins of the Lord of the Dead - Kelemvor
Paladins of the Morninglord - Lathander
Paladins of the Firehair - Sune
Paladins of the Loyal Fury - Torm
Paladins of the Just God - Tyr

You know what BG2 lacks? The ability to play an EVIL paladin, a warrior devoted to the EVIL gods, like the Knights of Takhisis(Dragonlance reference), it also lacks NEUTRAL paladins, like some sort of holy policeforce sworn to uphold order and truth, both the EVIL and the NEUTRAL paladins would be restricted to being lawful though, since paladins have a strict code which they must obey.

You can't have evil or neutral paladins. The very nature of the paladin means that he is a holy warrior, bound by strict codes and tenets. In return they receive divine favors and powers.

Evil paladins are not paladins, they're called blackguards in 3rd ed., the most famous of which is Scyllua Darkhope, Castellan of Zhentil Keep. They must be lawful evil.

Even though they may not be called Evil Paladins, the idea is still the same, a warrior who is very devoted to his god and who is therefore granted some powers that his fellow warriors are not, but in order to prove himself worthy he must follow a strict code.
