I did a Barbarian/Thief and it was lots of fun.

Have you ever seen a Barbarian backstab with a two-handed sword? That's very painfull...

If you want to try something hard i would suggest a clreic mage, to me that woul seem hard because of low hit points and low AC. Ecspecially early in the game since you start at Level one.

I believe a mutliclassed cleric/mage would get level 6 spells as the highest attainable. That would suck for later in the game.

I was under the impression that your highest castable level of spells was dependant on your primary stat. i.e a mage with 14 int would be able to cast level 4 spells, but not level 5. A cleric with 17 wis would be able to cast up to level 7 spells ect...

You could easily get a score of 19 in both int and wis.

Isn't the highest attainable level 20 in IWD2? I'm looking straight at the PH, and at level 10, a cleric can cast six cantrips, five first level spells, five second level spells, four third level spells, four fourth level spells, and three fifth level spells.

A wizard at level 10, can cast: four cantrips, four first level spells, four second level spells, three third level spells, three fourth level spells, and two fifth level spells. Add one extra spell slot in each level if that's a specialist mage.

Your stats are important, yes, but if you do not reach a high enough level, you can never learn the more powerful spells.

Max level is 30, so you can get 15/15 mage/cleric... dunno what lvls spells you'll have then.

Level 8 each, I believe. Regardless, I don't think it's possible to attain level 30 by the end of the game. You'd have to play the game through a second time to reach it.

Dunno how well this would work, but assuming you get to level 30, try a:

Monk (1)/Paladin (1)/Sorcerer (28)

Reasoning
-Fights with fists
-Saving throws simply stupendous
-No multi-classing penalties
-Most important attributes - ST, WS, CH, CON [not so much, you can get a great AC with spells, and other defenses]
-Can defend self with spells for ranged attacking, then when in melee uses fists combined with touch spells or defensive spells

Never played this, so I dunno how well it would work. It strikes me as slightly slow starting off, but you are fighting goblins and doing errands, so it shouldn't be too bad.
