Hope this is on topic...Ziroc had mentioned something about "no tech stuff" but I'm not sure if he meant this or not...anyway, looks like I'm going to need a new sound card for my computer. My old one's cr*pping out. Any suggestions on something decent? If I have to buy one, I might as well go with something worthwhile. There's always Soundblaster, I know, but I thought someone here may have a favorite as well. Please let me know, as I'm going out in a couple of hours to do this.

Cheers,

Sorry, I don't even know what sound card I have. Sad huh? Just wanted to say Hi.

Rex says there is nothing left but Soundblaster and recommends the Soundblaster Platinum Live. I have his old 128 and it works fine.

Thanks, Moni! I'm writing that down. I need to get the specs and make sure my computer will support it. My poor machine's been in surgery almost every day this week, but it's about to be fine again!

Hugs,

Aww thanks Sazerac. (HUGS) I hope you get a good sound card. One that you are happy with. Good luck.

Hmm...looks like SoundBlaster is the way to go. Well, the tried and true usually is the best! Thanks, guys!

what do you want to spend?
Also, what kind of speakers do you have? (no sense in going top-o-line if you got lame speakers, or you may blow them out)

what games are you playing, and what kind of sound are you looking for (THX certified, or just stereo?)

I love shopping for tech stuff, where are you going to buy it? Best Buy has a great sale this weekend... I got a 128M for 50 bucks, and a spindle of 50 CDRs for $16.99 and I've got 15 bucks in rebate comin...

RudeDawg: something around the $100 price range. I just saw that the Platinum Live is like around $300...whoa! a little too pricey there. I'm upgrading the speakers as well.

I was figuring on going to Office Depot (just down the street). They usually have the best prices in Denton. Best Buy is 20 miles away, but maybe I ought to call and check with them, too. I just don't want this turning into an all-day excursion.

Stereo is fine. I'd love THX quality, but I don't know if I can really afford it right now.

Thanks,
