Sanyo's developed something like this for charging Wii remotes. Now that I've got a Wii, finding a way to save on batteries is becoming more and more important...

Cool stuff!

Mythbusters did an episode on free energy where they tried using induction to grab electricity from power lines. The video's in that link... apparently, Sanyo and others haven't gotten the memo that you can't do that effectively

Magnetic fields arent a good thing to have around a lot of things. For example, im prety sure they can erase credit cards and hard drives. A strong field also seems to cause wierd problems with a computer monitor.

I went a different route, using rechargeable batteries. I've got 3-4x the number of batteries I need for the various accessories. When they go dead, pop em out, slap in fresh ones, and put the dead batts to charge overnight. Even if I run through two sets in a day, I've got enough.

Pricewise, the batteries probably cost as much or more than the Sanyo chargers (though I had half of them sitting around from a couple years back), but I was glad I went this way when we got a Wii Fit board. That thing *really* eats batteries, and I've not seen a charger option for it.

One thing I want to know about wireless electricity is it's efficiency. I'd also be wary of the long term effects if everywhere we went we were exposed to strong magnetic fields. Though it is fun to take a strong refrigerator magnetic and bring it close to an older monitor or TV (CRT). It does do interesting things to the picture.

interesting stuff. But re: the whole electric car thing, switzerland have been doing it for years, except without the under-street power radiators. Many of their alpine small towns only allow electric cars, like zermatt: http://wikitravel.org/en/Zermatt haha it's cool, even the cops drive these golf buggy things around that you could probably outrun hehe

Excellent point. How powerful does a magnetic field have to be to affect a heart pacemaker?

We've known about strong magnetic fields for decades. I think it's gonna be tumor/cancerville if we strong magnetic fields around us all the time. Not to mention what it would do to our brains.
