Hello Warm Skins,

I remember a post a while ago that said something like "There is absolutely no way to use a joystick to play W&W". Well, I've just found a way to play the game using a joystick.

I'm using my new Gravis joystick and the latest Xperience Software (req DirectX 8.0... which works fine on my PC). All you need to do is to set-up the joystick to read as a mouse and set-up your buttons the way you'd like them to be and Voilà you can use your joystick.

Though the interface is a bit cumbersome, you can tweak the settings to make it almost as easy as a mouse (I tried it for only 5 minutes so I'm not really used to it yet)

You can probably do this for Gravis Gamepads but I haven't tested it.

So if you want to play the game with a joystick, check with your joystick/gamepad manufacturer to see if you can get an emulation software.

Have Fun

Fantastic tip, Ryanamur!! Way to go.

I'm not a joystick gamer myself (too much like Mario chasing little ethnic plumbers around a TV screen was just never my idea of FUN) but there may be many out there who will appreciate that type of interface. Good workaround!

Blush, Blush, Blush

That's all I can do after receiving the praises of two great ones

Saz: I'm not a joystick gamer myself (unless I play a flight sim). I like the mouse/keyboard combination better

which brings an interesting question to all members of this forum...

which one you are comfortable with?

For now, I would have to go for the real mouse/keyboard combination. I have played COUNTLESS hours and I'm very comfortable with them.

However, the joystick offers one big advantage: you can put ALL the keyboard commands + mouse commands on your joystick.

I think that it would depends for each player. I like the mouse/keyboard, but you might prefer the joystick.

Mouse/Keyboard here. That's how I first started with games; first keyboard, then mouse.

Keyboard/Mouse here with the crossover hands position - use my left hand on the numberpad and crossover with the right to do things like shift key.

Works for me!

I can go either way (I can't believe I just said that) with the keyboard and joysticks. It really depends on the game. I've done a lot of gaming on N64 and SEGA, but I've also done a lot of Keyboard/Mouse Crossover. Right Hand on mouse and left hand on keyboard (spacebar) is my BGII stance, number pad and my choice of beverage is my W & W stance. Anyone ever played a Spaceflight/fighter game called Descent? I played that with all letters. Ah the old days . . .
