Why won't shipyard buy ALL of my shells and make helmets out of them?

I'm trying to give all of my crab shells to the shipyard guy, but he only took two of them. Then he says, "You don't have enough shell for me money. Work harder and I'll pay ye well." I have TONS of money and plenty of shells. Why won't he make me more masks?? I'm confused. Quick-respond if you can...I'm about to beat the game and I'm going to hold off playing for just a bit longer. Thanks.

P.S. - What are the minimum requirements for max role ascension? (like getting to Zen Master or Assassin, ect)

He buys them in groups of three. And that's three on the character he's talking to, IIRC. So if you've got three split up among three characters, no dice. And if you've only got two, no dice.

Thanks so much. I figured out that my problem wasn't that he wouldn't buy three shells at a time. I didn't have three shells. I had two shells and a breather. I didn't know about the breathers. I had to go get six more shells so I could get 6 helms and 6 breathers. Taken care of now, though. Thanks.
