What are your thoughts on married names?

For women, will you take or have you taken your husband's surname when you get married or keep your own? Or hyphenate? And will you be Mrs when you're married and Miss when you're not, or Ms?

And men, would you want or expect your wife to take on your surname when you get married? Would you be offended if she didn't?

I'm seriously considering taking my Fiance's last name when we get married next April. Of course, we are both devout non-conformists and I haven't made up my mind on the issue yet, nor will I probably until I have a discussion about it with my parents.

The thing is, She asked me to consider this becasue she has one sibling, a married sister, and if she were to take my last name then her family's age old Scottish name would effectively end. I have two Brothers who can carry the torch for my clan. Hyphenation is another option we are considering, but that just seems too cumbersome too me.

Strangely enough, the thought of taking her last name is appealing to me, but my chief concerns are with my parents feelings on the issue, though I know the decision is ultimately mine to make.

Overhere it is forbidden for the wife to take the husband surname. because it will be viewed as the brother marry his own sister. a very very bad thing.

My niece has a double barrelled name, so does my friends nephew, if they marry they'll have a quadruple barelled name, if the same happens to thier children... well you know what I'm getting at, where does it end ?. I't'll take most of the morning to call the register at school, driving licences will have to be a foot long, marrige ceremonys will take a lot longer there by depriving us of valuble drinking time at the receptions, it's madness I tell ya.
