I have a problem : when playing DS under Win XP, I cannot load my savegames nor start a new one if I patch the game to "No CD" version. If I use the original exe & the CD, there is no problem, it works perfectly fine (but still it isn't patched to No CD so it slows down a lot when accessing it). Anyone else had this kind of problem & solved it?

To my knowledge, the noCD is nothing but a crack to make the game work wihhout cd...

If you experience some slowdown while accessing the cd, try a bigger install, and/or the following command line options:
-nointro: won't play the intro sequence
-noplaycine: won't play videos (if you want, you can just wantc them from the CD, since they're in .avi format)
-hardmouse: mouse move a lot faster
and maybe even
-nocdsample <-- i've never really tried this one, tho.

More command line options.

Hope this helps,
Malleus

Solved it, it had to do with the registry. Yes I do put the NoCD crack on all my games cause I can't be bothered swapping cds, and with DS especially the game slows down a lot when accessing CD. And what is screwed up is that it accesses CD even if you make a full install (at least it was the case for me). But now it works fine

Which registry key did you muck with?

Found this registry path and key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DelphineSoft\Darkstone \CurrentVersion\Darkstone

Set the 'data path' key value to the directory where the CD was copied to.

FYI
