They do, but I think it is every other level or maybe when you level up in that class where they were created. My Panther had like 27 hp when I started off, but he has around 34 or so now. Oddly enough, my bear has over 100 hp. Haven't gotten into a battle with him yet, so not sure how effective a fighter he is, but still, 100 hp should take a few seconds to whittle down. That will give me a few extra attacks.
