Yes it is although you won't be able to update it until you register it, which costs money.

great just great.. spybot was not able to prevent my homepage changes which sucks.

now here is what happened.. i downloaded spysweeper and looks like everything looks good in protecting my unauthorize homepage change.

there is one problem though... the spyware is still there lurking around my computer. this is one really a tricky bastard!!

i did what you said dplax.. i went offline and ran spybot, adaware and spysweeper FULL SCAN on my computer. They still have not found the problem! im quickly running out of options here.

I actually downloaded a program called spybloc which is found the problem i think although when i tried to clean and remove the infected file, it says i should pay first for the program.. sigh how nice of them to tell me that After scanning!

help?

edit: i was able to remove my unauthorized tool bar which is cool. its the homepage change is my problem now.

I saw a few programs already on the list but here's my complete list with antispyware i have on windows:
-spybot sd
-adaware (the personal se)
-spysweeper
-hijackthis
-ms regclean
-regcleaner
-spywareguard
-spywareblaster
-avg antivirus

Either spywareguard or blaster has a changed homepage blocker. They're made by the same company and they work great. One scans realtime and the other immunizes a lot of files in IE mozilla and another program. It's recommended by spybot as well

I think this thread goes to show just how out-of-hand spyware is getting.

okay.. here is what happened so far
saw a few programs already on the list but here's my complete list with antispyware i have on windows:

-spybot sd- fail
-adaware (the personal se)- fail
-spysweeper-fail but help prevent homepage hijack
-hijackthis- found in registry but dont know if done correctly
-ms regclean- dont know how to use
-regcleaner-not used
-spywareguard-not used
-spywareblaster- not used
-avg antivirus- not installed because worried of conflict with norton

so basically i think ive got it licked hopefully. right now, i will just wait and see if my computer has been purged with it.

oh yeah.. running the 3 adaware, spybot and sweeper found 60+ hidden spyware without my knowledge.. crazyy.. all but the one i wanted removed in the first place.

If you haven't already...kill this one. Your start page will resort to a nothingness. You can then program the startpage back to whatever you wish in the proper field. First thing is to wipe out all traces of that spyware, including the above-mentioned key.

You have to download the exe file (please choose a thrusthworthy site) and just run it. It'll fix some registry problems.

These are great prevention tools. If you like to keep your PC as clean as possible I really recommend them.

With the programs I've listed my brother, sisters and parents only got 1 spyware program in a couple of months. Have to check again by now I think.
