Whoa!? Fels like I've just engaged Warp 9 here!
I'll do a few experiments later, with the rest of the commands, and see how far I can take the maxrequest for peak efficiency.

Firstly, to reiterate what andrewas said, HTTP pipelining can do wierd things. I have seen it modify the HTML of a page... although, it is a standard - it's part of HTTP 1.1 . The negative effects aren't widespread, so use it, but remember to try turning it off if random things start going wrong.

Secondly, setting nglayout.initialpaint.delay to 0 can actually make a page load slower, because Firefox will attempt to render it before there is enough there to work with. I recommend a minimum of 100, and slow connections will want this to be larger; also fiddle with content.notify.interval and keep them in sync - content.notify.interval should be 100 times nglayout.initialpaint.delay .
You might also be interested in network.http.max-connections , network.http.max-connections-per-server , and network.http.max-persistant-connections-per-server . Higher = stuff comes faster. But if you set these too high, some sites may lock you out, because this makes you hit the remote server much more rapidly (for example, slashdot is known to ban people permanantly for this; possibly a way for them to avoid the Slashdot effect?)

Yup, did that trick a couple of months ago. Most of my colleagues are still wondering why my Firefox renders pages faster than thiers.

BTW, you could use the "/prefetch:1" command to load it up faster after the first time you activate it. Works only for XP though.
