Default No speech in game

Not that this is really critical, but it does get annoying trying to read what they are saying after a while.

It just seems to be NPC's outside of the cities that have this bug, and the NPC's in cities dont really have voices besides Gareth...

Which also reminds me that Gareth doesn't give his speech at the start when you make a new character or whatever. He appears for half a second then dissapears. It's odd yeah lul

Sorry.... I've been wandering a bit, and thinking about this.

Sounds like sound driver issues to me. Check dxdiag to see what your sound status is... seems to me you can slow down the acceleration to improve things. You might try updating your drivers to see if that helps.

Also, are all the extra files loaded on the machine, or still running from CD?

I'm (you guessed it) on the road again, in Houston tonight. Back late tomorrow, but no promises on being active when I get home.

Really? Vista machine, eh? Then you'd better make sure you've got all the compatibility things turned on. It may be newer, but that doesn't always help older games...

I haven't tried putting it on my Vista machine yet, since that's my work laptop. I keep that one clean

So just to confirm, this is not related to running on a Vista machine but is true under a Win98_SE machine or under Win XP Pro:

NPC's in cities don't actual speak out loud like Gareth does they just have animation and Text scrolling in the "text box window" ?

I ask because I just decided to play the game again. The last time I played was back in 2002 and I just can't remember if town npc's spoke.

Initially on starting the game no one spoke including Gareth, however I resolved that by calling up dxdiag, going to the sound tab and moving the acceleration slider 1 notch to the left.
