On the "getting to commited" issue.
There have been a few deaths in sweden, were people who are involved in LARPhave killed themselves, as in described in their role/character..
Pretty scary, but those are the real psychos..

Warhammer players might be interested to know that one of the top figure designers (one of the Perry twins I believe) blew his hand off when LARPing. He was part of a cannon crew, using real gunpowder. You make one mistake...

But I think there is probably some happy medium between looking slightly sad and actually killing or maiming yourself. And the most common injury when doing this kind of stuff is usually horse related. If you are not used to riding horses remember to stay on the ground, as whatever you are dressed as it is going to hurt when you fall off.
