The Gulf War could be seen as the West's desire that Saddamm would not control Kuwait's oil, and possibly use it as blackmail on the international front. MANY western European countries were much more dependent on Kuwatti oil than the US, their economies hurt much more by rising oil prices, yet they didn't help and loudly condemned American imperialism. It was American lives, equipment, and money on the line so the USA was engaged in European-style "imperialsim" that benefited the complainers more than it did the USA. Other countries refused to get involved because they feared terrorist retaliation. They wanted somebody else to do the job for them and then they complained. (9-11 was, at least in part, a terrorist response to the Gulf War.)

AHHHH so the other troops over in Kuwait from around the world were just peeling potatoes, I seem to recall that the british had more deaths from US than Iraq bullets. Its just this type of thinking that gets up the nose of most other people from around the world Antryg even those that ARE your friends.
[/QUOTE]I apologize if my comments made it seem that the US was alone in sending troops to help Kuwait. I knew then as well as now that many countries were involved in the effort. My point was aimed at those countries which did not help, benefitted, and then decried about American imperialsim. If such condemnation was also aimed at our "brothers in arms" during the war, I was unaware of it. It seems just as unfair to blame Great Britian or other Commonwealth countries as it does the USA. I did not mean to imply otherwise. In an attempt to keep from flaming countries that I felt acted in a cowardly and hypocritical manner I inadvertently insulted our friends. Once again I apologize.

If USA is to be the policeman enforcing the law - then those laws are they supposed to enforce?

G’day Magik
I know that joint forces will always have sad accidents such as these and I am also sure the US has had it’s fair share too. I was just pointing out emotively that it was a joint exercise in the gulf. With people from around the world fighting with the US on the Front line not just sending some token guards for the air bases.

G’day Antryg
Correction and apology noted, the sending of troops overseas is a very emotional time. That is why it is important to remember your friends (and the US does have many) their previous contributions and also their advice. When friends are telling you do not do this Iraq thing on your own, do it WITH the U.N. help, then maybe the US should listen. This is what friends are for.

Are you saying that, as a country, we should only be willing to help out those other countries that agree with our political views? I mean, what exactly are our interests? I was under the impression that we all want some semblance of peace, eventually.

I have no first hand knowledge, so if I am wrong, I apologize. I would suggest that not every time the U.S. gets involved, in a conflict, we are specifically asked to be there.

That's the whole point homer. Everybody understands when a country does something in it's own self-interest. The problem arises ofr Americans) when the US takes military action for the "right" reasons. Sometimes it IS in our interest to do so but not always. Whatever the motivation though America is labelled as the big bully or policeman. Since there are so many complaints from other countries, then maybe the US should let the world do what it wants and only help when it only directly pays off.

I agree. Besides, isn't the US in a state of depression already? And when countries go to war, don't they usually tend to come out into a depression? Our economy's been suffering for as long as I know, and we need to spend less on foreign expenditures and more on feeding the hungry and housing the homeless.

Question Mark

As a former Policeman ...no the US should not be the worlds policeman.

Lets roll up the flags in Europe, declare victory, resign from NATO and bring our troops home.

US out of the Balkans. (Bismarck said it best: the balkans are not worth the bones of one Pomeranian grenadier)

US out of Korea - since South Korea loves the northern nut wads now, let them handle Pyongyang and the nuclear tar baby. (Watch Japan wet wet it pants)

This is the whole point!
USA is following it's own laws when raging wars against foreign countries
No wonder there are other countries that find the USA threatening
