Strategies for Blades

A lot of people think blades are the worst of the bards, this is probably because of Haer D'alis who has too few hit points to be on the front line, low lore, and a level 1 bard song makes him pretty useless. A player character blade, however, has the same number of hit points as Minsc or Keldorn when you keep a familiar in your backpack. It is also very easy to get -15 AC or better early on in the game when you enter defensive spin (when you get Melodic chain or just using bracers plus a plus 2 ring and another +1 AC item not counted as a ring/amulet of protection). The strategy I have is handing him the boots of speed or turning invisible, and sending the blade into a legion of monsters, with stone skin, fire resistance, and possibly another defensive spell (mirror image, blur work well). Have the blade go into a defensive spin and then use your horn of blasting and cast sunfire and fireballs on top of yourself. The only damage that the bard will take is a little based fire, but he will do a lot of damage. It's very impressive to see.
