My wife just saw this set of three books on sale. Are they good? I've never read his stuff.

The Xanth books are some of his better ones. They don't rely as much on sex and graphic details as some of his other series; in fact, they appear to be targetted at teenagers (but still fun for adults).

I don't know which books are in that set, but you might head to the library to see about reading them in order. It's not required, but it may make some things clearer... like the adult conspiracy, and the color of her panties. [img]smile.gif[/img]

If you haven't read them, they're worth it... but beware the puns!

The Xanth books are fun, but yes, heed Bungleau's advice and get them in order to fully appreciate them. There are quite a few of them and after a while they do start to seem very similar so you may want to take them a few at at time.

I read the first one and I liked it, but for some reason I don't feel the desire to read the others.

They're easy to read humerous fantasy. They're along the same vein as Discworld... just not as clever or well written. I do think they're worth a read, but if you have not finished all the Discworld books I'd recommend you spend your time there instead.

Great fun, but very lighthearted. Not his best books however in my opinion.

He's actually one of my favourite authors - I would highly recommend his 'Mode' series for something very 'different'.

I loved the Bio of a Space Tyrant series - highly gripping - but as Bungleau warned are pretty adult in their content (the first book especially).

His 'Incarnations of Immortality' series reads in quite a similar way to Xanth, although the quality is variable and the content more adult. 'On a Pale Horse' is my favourite from there.

There are 29 of them now. A new one will be out in Oct, called Stork Naked. The first of the series is "A Spell for Chameleon".

I never finished the Bio of a Space Tyrant... he got too graphic with the rapes for my taste, and I spent my thoughts elsewhere. Perhaps he mellowed after the first couple of books, but I don't know... sex has been a recurring theme in many of his books.

I also like the Incarnations of Immortality and Apprentice Adept books. Quite entertaining, really.
