This proposal was brought up in Sweden as well, at least a similar one.
The objections people had then were mostly concerning the fact that employers would be able to hire a person during a busy time of the year, promising him/her a guaranteed employment and then, when everything cooled down, they could simply fire them.
An objection that I consider highly relevant as I know from experience that many employers like to push young people around, taking advantage of their naivety.

There is something to be said for a decent long-term relationship with your employer like in the "good old days" - it doesn't half lead to greater social cohesion.

That is true but if your boss is a dick do you really want to still work under him at that job. Maybe not unless you could get him fired, your work is probaly not up to par due to the dick to begin with. People work better when they are content. Which recently happened at Telus were all the employees under one department had dicks for mqanagers and after the strike upper management were still getting complaits about the managers and after a review they were all fired much to the delight of the employees. Although it was still a hard process as many people still liked to kiss the managers butts which many people seem to do these days even though in principal they should have punched there manager out for being a dick.

The Constitutional Court has ruled that the law is constitutional. (link)

Chirac is expected to pass or not pass the law later today.

Question Mark

It looks like I can break out the popcorn, then, and sit back to watch the news this weekend.

Question Mark

They had to do something--absolute job security for everyone is helping to sink their economy. By making this change now, as hurtful as it might be to many young French, will be much less dramatic and hurtful than if they had to make more major changes 20 years from now.
