World Cup draw held
Sportal The draw for the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea has been held, with one of the first round highlights undoubtedly the pairing of Argentina and England in Group F. In the 1998 finals in France, Argentina won an electrifying second round match to knock England out of the competition, but England will get its chance for revenge when they meet again on June 7 in Sapporo. Nigeria and Sweden have also been drawn with Argentina and England in what is sure to be one of the most competitive groupings, while in other first round highlights, Italy, Croatia, Mexico and Ecuador make up the tough Group G. Germany, Ireland, Cameroon and Saudi Arabia make up Group E, while Brazil has what appears to be an easy opening in Group C with matches against Turkey, China and Costa Rica. Australia’s conqueror Uruguay’s reward is being drawn in Group A with Cup holders France, as well as Senegal and Denmark, while Spain will be favoured to top Group B with Slovenia, Paraguay and South Africa. And South Korea faces Poland, the United States and Portugal, while their fellow co-hosts Japan will meet Belgium, Russia and Tunisia. Full draw for the 2002 World Cup finals in Japan and South Korea: Group A: France, Senegal, Uruguay, Denmark. Group B: Spain, Slovenia, Paraguay, South Africa. Group C: Brazil, Turkey, China, Costa Rica. Group D: South Korea, Poland, United States, Portugal Group E: Germany, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Cameroon. Group F: Argentina, Nigeria, England, Sweden. Group G: Italy, Ecuador, Croatia, Mexico. Group H: Japan, Belgium, Russia, Tunisia. |

It's a travesty of juistice that Scotland aren't in there...
I'd go for either France or Argentina, if I was betting on a winner.

Brazil and Spain have it easy. Look at who they have to play!!
Good that Uruguay have to play Denmark and France - serves them right for knocking us out. |

Group F - there always has to be a "group of death" doesn't there . That will test Sven's Soldiers - bet Beckham doesn't retaliate this time .

Group C....
Group F is the group of death and group C the group of pansies. Brazil have a cakewalk. I'm glad Sweden are in again. Being an Aussie, we oft have to find another team, and it was always Sweden, Scotland and Holland for me. Oh and begrudgingly England of course. Especially the match against Argentina. Sweden WERE ROBBED in their last world cup. The captain sent off against Brazil one match away from the final Ah well. Then Beckham against Argentina! What is it with these BLASTED SOUTH AMERICAN BASTARDS??!! Ah.. forgive me... I'm still anti-Uruguay at the moment , and Argentina and Brazil are both it's neighbours. hmrhmrhrmhrmhrmhrmrhmrrm |
