Welcome to board, Dave B!!!!

I'm answering your question here because the other thread is getting pretty long. I'll try to get you started in the right direction.

Hello everyone, I'm jumping into this topic as I'm new also. Having
sworn ten years ago I'd never have a PC rule my home as well as work
and having, at that time, just weaned myself off the previous ten
years addiction via various 8bit and 16bit machines I have to admit
I've lapsed bigtime.....

I recently installed Wizards and Warriors and everything seemed,
looked and sounded OK. However, in the start village, Valeia, I can't
access the Town Hall although what I've previously read tells me it
should be there and I can only exit via the west/left-hand gate.
I can enter the other places ie temple, inn, armoury no problem.

I thought no more about the above but having just entered Ishan N'ha
I've found a town hall but find I can't exit from either gate and
appear to be trapped. This does not seem to be a "driver" issue that
I've read else where. Is this a system problem or case of user
error. Yours a very confused Dave.
It's not a case of user error . From the sound of it, I'd guess your running either Win 2K or XP. alot of people have trouble with the TOWN AVI files not opening properly. Check this site and see if it helps... Xignals site ..If not, post back here with some of your system info...ie

OS
CPU speed
???MB Ram
Video card
HDD size

I'm sure we can get this sorted out.

Hi Packrat, thanks for the information. I'm running XP and having
checked out the site you suggested it would appear that is where
the fault lies. Once again thanks for pointing me in the right
direction. As for me, I need to point myself in the direction of
home! It's 10.15pm in Olde London Towne and I've been surfing all
evening at work trying to sort this out. I'll let you know how I
get on.

After playing Dungeon Seige, which I enjoyed, it's good to play a
RPG with some serious character development depth.

Cheers for now, Dave.

Welcome to the finest pub in all the Gael Serran, Dave B. Once you get your technical woes ironed out, the fun can really begin!

One early hint for you (that's not a spoiler, IMHO): when you can't get in a dungeon, castle, or crypt, look around for a lever on a wall. That will often take you to where you want to go.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Following Packrat's advice I downloaded the Virtualdub utility. Installation and amending the three "townmsk" files took less
than five minutes and has cured the problem.

The same Help page also mentioned that the game had a tendancy to
crash under XP so I'll need to fix that also. However, in my case
I've had two crashes, in over twelve hours play so I hadn't really
taken that issue seriously yet.

IŽll add my voice to the greater consensus lol.
Welcome to the board Dave B! Now to the crash issue. If you only have had 2 crashes in 12 hours of play I wouldnŽt worry. The crashes referred to in the tech thread follows a pattern. The game crashes whenever you try to talk, give an item, disarm chests or casting spells. Another is the game freezes then throws you out with an error message like:
Quote:
The memory 00000 could not be read from
or some such. The fix is simply to right click your W&W shortcut, click the compatiblity tab, check "run in comptibility mode" and then choose win95 layer. If you ever run into to trouble you know what to do now lol.
