I've closed and linked the other thread over to here. Fingers crossed for the Aussies to do well in their first match.
Germany started off well with a 4-2 win over Costa Rica. Also Ecudor beat Poland 2-0. I think the germany game was the highest score in a first round game for a while.

Half time. Looking pretty good. A few sloppy passes at the end...
I don't know what that ref's problem is, won't even let them drink water? Joe Cole is looking quite good. Robo-crouch is...crap.

Although I didn't get to see the entire game, I thought England was playing sloppy AND lousy. They kept throwing in long passes to Crouch who was alone on an island in a sea of Paraguayans. I thought the English were playing too much 'behind the ball' (that's Dutch expression, not sure if it still stands in English), meaning that there were a lot of defenders who did not switch from defense to offense quick enough, and the midfield was... well, absent. I think highly of both Gerrard and Lampard, but both remained invisible (Lampard was in, right?)
I thought Germany was weak as well, I totally agree with Johnny's opinion from the first thread. The two center backs are the laughing stock of the team, I think Klose's a bit overrated as a striker and doesn't pose that much of a threat. I don't think they'll make it very far in this tournament. Best playing team so far was Equador. Fairly decent, waiting for the right opportunities and winning against a surprisingly weak Poland (kudo's to them for keeping the spirit up: luck wasn't with them the last few minutes). Let's see how Don Leo and his Trinidad and Tobago fare against the mighty Swedes

All the kidding put aside, with the squad the English have, you would assume they'd make use of the talents of their players, Beckham's incredible passing excluded, of course. I mean, you practically abolish the midfield, save for defensive issues. I'd call that an insult to Stephen Gerrard and Frank Lampard, to be honest.

Well, i keep hearing the English are favourites for the title, but that comes mostly from the English themselves. Seriously, if this team is going to be the next worldchampions, than my name is Mickey Mouse. England looks very poor, Gerrard, Beckham, and Terry were completely invisible, and Peter Crouch is absolutely pathetic, why did they even bring him along, aren't there any better strikers in England ?
Only reason they got 3 points today, is because Paraguay played even worse than England.
