Translation:

Tampon with pointed blade to stop rape

A Swede has designed what can become womens defense against rape. A holster with a pointed blade, which springs foward if it is exposed to preassure. Femdefence - as it is called - still only exists as prototype.

Women now get the oppotunity to protect themselves from rape with a defenceweapon, which will make men shudder at the mere sight of. A tampon with a pointed blade, which springs forward when the tampon is exposed to preassure. It is the Swedish designer and artist Leif Lindell, who according to the Swedish 'Aftonbladet' (a newspaper) has produced the prototype as an examprojekt (in what field I wonder), and it has been given the name Femdefence.

Looks like a tampon

The product itself looks like a tampon, but it is a holster, which contains a sharp needle which will penetrate a mans penis, if he tries to rape the the woman. Leif Lindell further imagines that the needle can have a sedetive added.

Lindell got the idea through a girlfriend who however isn't certain that she'll use the invention herself, if it is put into production.

Doesn't solve the problem

Leif Lindell himself doesn't think that this is the way society shall solve the problem of violence towards women:

"But I think that women should have an oppotunity togive as good as they get", he says

firstly, as a man - ow. and secondly isn't there a chance that it would get aimed the wrong way and hurt the woman? and no, i don't mean putting it in backwards (i'm sure women would be too careful for that.)

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking . What if it didn't retract back properly? Or just didn't fit properly? Plus there aren't that many days you can actually wear a tampon in the month so it wouldn't really be that much use. Unless it's like a pseudo-tampon that you can wear whenever... sounds uncomfortable. I doubt this is going to make it to the shelves.

Here the link to Aftonbladet. It's in Swedish but there's a pic on the weapon: http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/kvinna...324955,00.html

Edit: The inventor Leif Lindell is a student of Konstfack, a Swedish university of arts and design.

Emm, but how do you get it out safely? Even if it has a string like normal tampons, the wall around it will still make a pressure on it while you pull it out, just like it does to normal tampons. Can they be sure that the pressure won't be enough to trigger off the weapon? It could happen... Ouch indeed.
