The best trolls are usually about something that many people will hold an opinion on, like religion, sex, politics and the like. If you also make deliberately a little vague so that lots’ of people will draw what they want from it, you just might get lots of people responding, Problem is, on forums due to their structure and the fact they are usually moded and tend (due to the fact they are “enclosed” communities) tend to be less good for this sort of thing. Usenet is generally the best place for trolls, seeing as how it’s all decentralised and there is a much lower standard of behaviour because it’s all-voluntary and also due to the magic of Cross posting. |

And then they would have pretended to be newbies, And then started an inflammatory topic under the guise of “being new and wanting to make a thoughtful first post” And then used Socks to stoke the flames till it gets out of control, but that sort of thing just doesn’t work in forums that have good and alert moderators. Nor in forums much, they should have just stuck to Usenet which is The Trolls Paradise(TM) |

We keep a special eye out for those fellas as they tend to cause the biggest long-term disruption to the ecology of a forum - one day they tend to slip up. The trolls we just had here seem to be of the pea-brain, prepubescent, infantile type. Easy to handle those - the best option while waiting for a mod/admin is to ignore them (like you would ignore a little chihuahua barking at you in the street). Then the mods come in and take care of the crap they left all over the place, so the place looks good as new - as if they never even existed. I see I missed out of a bit of action - sorry fellas, had birthday drinks last night and was at work all day today. I take it they've all been slain and IPs banned - if not, this shouldn't take too long. Somewhere out there is a school that just lost its access to IW. |

Just to let everyone know that I've tracked down what ISPs they were using, and we will shortly be sending an email to those ISPs informing them of how these people are using their connections. ISPs hate this type of infantile stuff - and it's really quite easy to track them down if you know how to do it.

A regrettable thing that trolls should exist at all in the first place.

I assure you that I would never dream of trolling a forum. Or indeed, anywhere. And I have never ever done anything wrong here either. Or anywhere else. Or perhaps there is a secret list of "known Trolls" that is circulated among mod's of various forums? Hmmm... |
