Yes, there is a thread around this topic in general, but...I took a couple of new players through some of the dungeon last night, and one of them asked me about the drops. Something to the effect that they'd be enough to take the fun out of the game. I told her no, and after getting to the door to Skullport, through the sewers, she was already starting to agree. Then we did the kraken society quest, and all her doubts were quelled. Needless to say, it was not pretty. I had done the quest earlier in the day, with a lvl 13 or 14 fighter/wm, so, with three chars between 9 and 12, I figured we could do it pretty easily. Not. However, we did manage to get it done, eventually, and ran to lvl 4, licking our wounds. They had to leave by the time we reached lvl 5's door, but I believe they will probably be back. Undermountain has cast it's spell once again. Just goes to show you, there is more than one way to help a new char, and sometimes, you just have to let 'em get their feet wet...

Good stuff.

People see the high powered weapons and armour and think its is not fun.

Wait till they try and use them against some of the tougher guys. You really need these weapons, armour AND good tactics to win this game.

Yup, tis not a walk in the park, no sir!
I've been playing BG1 and at first I was going "only a +1 weapon? HA!" til I realized how tough it was to fight even WITH that weapon.... so EfU is the same in that respect...you may have that +5 item but but boy do you NEED it!

Yeh, Undermountain is one of the deadliest Dungeons in the Forgotten Realms, so you need items to match that level of intense combat.

Or, if you like baseball, go for Mickey Mantles Bat of death +?? what was it? 7? Small easter egg there.

I found it too, a couple of times, and may still have it on one char, not sure. I about died laughing when I read it though.

While wandering around lvl 9 solo, I found that too. I quickly dropped that *priceless treasure*, looking for a spot to get near enough the water to bathe...
