I posted this in the ToB forum since it contains a few minor spoilers about ToB.. The Wave halberd apparently has the ability to instantly kill fire-based enemies like Fire Elementals, Efreeti and Fire Salamanders (not Fire Giants alas), without a saving throw. So I expected this weapon to be very handy in the Marching Mountains. It certainly demolished the Fire Elementals, including Imix, but against the fire salamanders (of which there were a lot) it behaved just like an ordinary halberd. This is quite annoying since salamanders can be very nasty en masse. I haven't tried it against Efreeti (do you ever meet any, other than summoned ones?).
I assume this is a bug - could the BG2 Fix Pack creator rectify it maybe?

On the subject of weapons that instantly kill a type of monster, I've found that the Rod of Smiting is near-useless - I've had my Fighter/Mage with a good AC and THAC0, plus 2 points of proficiency in two-handed and quarterstaff weapons, wielding it and have only killed ONE golem via the instant-death effect so far. (And I've tried it against plenty of them!) Could this be because golems have very low saving throws vs. death?

The Wave you put together. One piece is in the Astral Prison (HaerDalis quest) and the other is in the Sahuagin city, on the Rebel Prince.

The Rod of Smiting is available for purchase in the Underdark, in Ust Natha.

Try casting Greater Malison just beforehand.

But Memnoch, Golems are immuned to Greater Malison!

Still puzzling over why Cloudkill can bypass their Magic Immunity.

A better trick against most golems is to trap them down a narrow passage and have a few characters equipted with unlimited missile weapons ie. tasherons bow, the fire-knife (cannot remember it's name) and azure-edge. The true hammer of thunder bolts and lightning is also pretty handy for most golems and trolls.

From the Drow merchants, in the Drow City, in the Underdark.

If not a Sorcerer casting total oblivion, then a Paladin meting out justice. Otherwise, I think I will just be a bard and torture my enemies with, "My Heart Will Go On".

Golems and good saving throws??????? I bumped into a ademantium golem once as a necromancer. Did 2 lower resistance and ONE finger of death, the golem sank to his knees. Pure luck I guess then
